On January 30, 2025, Young Europe Society, in collaboration with the "Octavian Goga" High School from Miercurea Ciuc, hosted an inspiring video workshop as a follow-up activity to the previous photo workshop. The main goal of the event was to improve young individuals' digital skills and help them see their community from the perspective of local residents. The non-formal learning phase provided an introduction to the basics of documentary filmmaking, including essential rules, composition, and techniques.
After the theoretical part, the students ventured into the streets of Miercurea Ciuc to put their newfound knowledge into practice. Their goal? To create documentaries featuring locals and their perspectives on life in the city. After selecting the perfect subjects, they conducted interviews, asking about daily life and personal opinions. During this process, they also filmed B-roll footage to complement their documentaries with original material. Once the fieldwork was completed, the participants returned to the school to edit the final versions of their documentaries.
The video workshop inspired students to see their city through the eyes of its residents, fostering a deeper connection with their community. By creating documentaries, they not only honed their digital skills but also discovered the power of storytelling in amplifying local voices. Their work contributed to a broader conversation about life in Miercurea Ciuc, highlighting the importance of preserving and sharing community narratives. This experience proved that filmmaking is more than just a technical skill, it is a powerful tool for education, social engagement, and meaningful change.
