Inclusion Strategy for Youth Organisations
Inclusion Strategy for Youth Organisations
A strategy is a statement of intent which outlines where you are today, indicates where you want to go tomorrow and defines the steps you will take to go there.
(Inclusion By Design Book, published by SALTO-YOUTH Inclusion Resource Center)
In the context of Youth Accreditation for 2021, Young Europe Society organised a training course from 1st – 12th October 2022 in Keramoti, Greece. The aim of the activity was to empower 16 youth workers with the know-how, attitudes and aptitudes necessary to analyse, plan, implement and evaluate the inclusion strategy for their organization. In order to achieve this, we will make full use of nonformal participative learning methods. The methodology of this TC was based on the Inclusion By Design Book, published by SALTO-YOUTH Inclusion Resource Center.
All the organisations in this consortium are working with youth facing fewer opportunities. Moreover, all of them involve participants facing fewer opportunities in Youth Exchanges. Inclusion is one of the objectives of E+ KA1 and organisations are aiming towards more inclusive activities. However, even though the partners in this consortium aim to contribute to inclusion, none of them has an articulated inclusion strategy and is faced with common challenges in youth work such as difficulty to reach the youth at risk, difficulty finding time for consolidated mentorship, taking inclusion for granted, focusing on treating symptoms rather than the disease, working on a reactionary basis, dealing with complex profiles, etc.
The objectives of the activity are correlated with objectives 2 and 4 from the Youth Accreditation.
O1. Empower 16 youth workers and staff with the knowhow, attitudes and aptitudes necessary to analyse, plan, implement and evaluate the inclusion strategy for their organization;
O2. At least 50% of the consortium partners will approve their inclusion strategy before the end of the project;
O3. Increase the quality of inclusion services provided by the consortium partners in youth exchanges and other international activities where youth facing fewer opportunities are involved.
For 10 days, the 16 participants from Romania, Greece, Spain, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Hungary shared practices with regard to inclusive projects from beginning to end, worked together to identify the common challenges in the youth inclusion work and learned about the four phases of building an inclusion strategy. Then, they worked on developing the inclusion strategies of their organisations.
The main result of this TC is the empowerment of 16 youth workers with the know-how, attitudes and aptitudes necessary to analyse, plan, implement and evaluate the inclusion strategy for their organization. An output of the activity is the inclusion strategies adopted by the consortium partners. Additionally, a positive result of this TC is that the consortium organisations will continue collaborating on other E+ projects and have a common approach towards the inclusion of the participants facing fewer opportunities.
In the long run, this TC contributes to quality youth work in the field of inclusion of youth facing fewer opportunities, therefore assisting to the achievement of the inclusion objective of KA1.
During the training course, the participants worked to develop inclusion strategies for their organisations. They used a guiding template inspired by Inclusion By Design Book, published by SALTO-YOUTH Inclusion Resource Center. The resources are accessible at the following link:
This TC was an eye opener for me and my organisation about the importance of having a strategic approach with regards to inclusion. The methods used were well chosen and I am very grateful for having the chance to make the first draft of the inclusion strategy of my organisation during the TC.

This training course was a great learning experience. It made me realise how important is to have a strategic approach if you want to achieve effective results. This is particularly useful for my young organisation.

This training course about inclusive strategies was very useful for me as a beginner youth worker because I learned how to think of a strategy for my organisations' problems and make it specific and effective. Also, it helped me to realize how important inclusive work is and how many different ways there are to implement it. Last but not least, it provide me with a detailed inclusion work guide and it gave me the opportunity to know how other NGOs work.
Evi, Greece
This training course gave me new perspectives about how we can make our organisations even more inclusive. It was also a really great opportunity to get to know other organisation from Greece, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Spain, and to share our experiences. I would recommend this TC to everyone who works in with young people.

Multumim Dan😇

Our organisation disseminated the activity's results within the network of youth workers and staff of the organisations with which we collaborate. We presented the inclusion strategy we developed during the mobility and provided the template to our partners as a helpful tool for developing their inclusion strategies.
